Profile number one
The IT infrastructure of Germany
Germany is a country that is very developed and advanced in the IT
infrastructure. Germany is a country that is well known for its German
engineering, with its advances in technology, like their advances in the auto
industry. Germany is also a country that is continually trying to advance its
technology. Germany is a country that is very similar to the USA in terms of the
availability of internet cell phones and home phone service.
On this webpage I’m going to talk about some information that deals with the IT
infrastructure in Germany such as telecommunication and internet. If there are
any questions you may contact me. My email address is posted on the introduction
page. Some of the information that I will be using on this webpage is based on
personal experience during my time in Germany.
Internet
In Germany there are a variety of means and ways to access the internet. They
have a variety of internet cafes throughout the country, and also the capability
of the internet at home. Rates at internet cafes vary from 1 to 5 euro an hour.
Many of the people in Germany have internet service capabilities in their homes.
The two main types of internet services are dial-up and broadband. I found on a
website that there are 16,494,000 internet hosts in Germany, and there are also
38,600,000 million internet users in Germany.
Telecommunications
Deutsche Telekom used to be the main phone provider in Germany. Which caused
very high rates to place a phone call. In January 1998 the government passed a
law that de-monopolized Deutsche Telekom. There are now more than 100 phone
service providers, and because of this the rates have dropped considerably. In
Germany phone calls are paid for based on usage, and costs vary considerably
based on time of day and distance of the phone calls. Calls are cheaper during
the hours of 1800 to 900, than during the day. The cheapest rate is between the
hours of 2100 and early morning. The phone services include both analog and ISDN
phone service. Based on a website I found that there are nearly 53,720,000 homes.
